Padmavati
I had the privilege of catching the 3D trailer of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus which looks like a treat. The storyline given to the Bhansali film is inherently more interesting than the rather done to death one in his previous, Bajirao Mastani. The real one to watch here will be Shahid Kapoor. Both Ranveer and Deepika have proved themselves as Bhansali alum (both who have passed with flying colours as Ram/Bajirao 1 and Leela/Mastani), yet Kapoor is fresh meat and his portrayal of an insecure man who has to choose whether he prioritizes his kingdom or wife will be an interesting watch.
2. Tumhari Sulu
Vidya Balan’s slice of life film promises something more than itself. It promises to bring you laughs while make you think. Think of it as a less-shocking, path-breaking and lighter version of Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha which has broken records in itself. The film shows the life of a housewife-turned radio jockey. Hopefully, it won’t be outlandish like another fantastic film from this year – Secret Superstar, which was outlandish yet heartwarming. This one promises fun!
3. 102 Not Out
This Umesh Shukla directorial, based on the Gujarati play of the same name, talks about a 102 year old man (Amitabh Bachchan) and his son, a 75 year old (Rishi Kapoor). To see these legends break some new ground by sharing the silver screen together will be a treat, will it not? The 102 year old is trying to break the world record for world’s oldest man ever, much to the chagrin of his son. While the date is undecided, I’m looking forward to this one!
4. Tiger Zinda Hai
Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger was polarising and to see Salman Khan and director Ali Abbas Zafar make it into a sequel is daring (daring to make shitloads of money). But yet, this one excites me because I can’t wait to see how Zafar, Khan and even the doe-eyed Katrina Kaif execute this one. I will surely be looking out for it this December 22nd, watching it and giving you all an exclusive review of Tiger Zinda Hai (Ya Ye Franchise Dead Hai).
5. Qarib Qarib Single
Watching Irrfan as a lafanga, badtameez will be a treat in itself. Can’t wait for this one as it stars a man whose movies I have loved watching including the Lunchbox, Hindi Medium etc. He somehow has mastered the art of such deep, sickening, dark twisted RIPROARING comedies that will not only make your stomach hurt to its breaking point but will make you think about the problems and the poignancies of life. This one promises more of the same.
