Folks, welcome to our new segment, #TrailerTailor, as we generally love talking to guys and Fridays are just too far apart. Sorry for the extended hiatus, there were technical issues with our Twitter and it was a mess. Still, we have a pile of reviews stacked up and we are ready to talk about the latest films!
Starting today, with October. Shoojit Sircar’s film of the same name, promises to be intriguing yet absolutely perfect. I believe that in his best films, Sircar beautifully blends the urban lifestyle that Imtiaz Ali has skilled with the perfections that Sanjay Bhansali achieves, except Sircar does it with more grace and finesse. October, his latest film, after the widely successful PIKU, looks to be a good one. The last time we saw the director do a non-comedy and more serious film, we got Madras Cafe, which got a lot of love and appreciation (I wasn’t completely convinced by its narrative, but John Abraham moved me).
Easily the most talented writer in Bollywood, Juhi Chaturvedi (who was written Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe and Piku) is all set to bring us October. I’ve never been too sure of the writer’s writing skills, but this looks intriguing. The trailer is beautifully set in various locations and follows “Dan” (Dhawan) as he cleans a five-star hotel. Some time later, a girl who he might or might not have had a thing for (Banita Sandhu), has some medical issues and is ushered to the hospital. Over there, she calls for Dan, something omitted to his colleagues. Dan’s learning of this and how he copes with it is the story that the trailer chooses to tell.
Generally, SPOILER ALERT, I don’t have any cons as of yet and I’m waiting for the 13th to roll around so I can go see it. Wait for the review! Plus point — Banita Sandhu’s one shot at 1:43 makes me sure she is going to give a stellar performance. Varun’s only other stint in real serious films was Badlapur - a massive plus point in the actor’s filmography.
Truthfully, on a scale of one to ten - I’m looking forward to October immensely and I’m giving the trailer and the anticipation it creates for the film - 8.5/10. It tells so much yet reveals so little and I cannot wait to see it.
