The Filmistaan Awards kick off, minus the schmaltz, terrible editing and fake awards given to those who have connections amounting to those awards. Here we are unbiased, lovers of true cinema. The winner, after a close match between him and Rajkummar Rao, is VIKRANT MASSEY for A Death In The Gunj.

Swara Bhaskar – Anaarkali of Arrah

Vidya Balan – Tumhari Sulu

The winner, narrowly beating out all of the fantastic women, is RATNA PATHAK SHAH for Lipstick Under My Burkha.

The winner is RAJKUMMAR RAO for his stupendous performance in Bareilly Ki Barfi, as the ‘BADASS BABUA’.

Seema Pahwa – Bareilly Ki Barfi/Shubh Mangal Saavdhan

Anjali Patel – Newton

Plabita Borthakur – Lipstick Under My Burkha

Aahana Kumra – Lipstick Under My Burkha

Kalki Koechlin – A Death In The Gunj

The winner is KALKI KOECHLIN, very narrowly beating out the other 4 women. Kalki’s depressingly beautiful Mimi was a tour de force who was very entertaining to watch.

BEST MUSIC DIRECTOR-

Pritam – Half Girlfriend

Pritam – Jab Harry Met Sejal

Amit Trivedi – Secret Superstar

Amaal Malik – Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Pritam – Jagga Jasoos

While we found four out of five of these films not up to the mark, we still feel that the winner was JAB HARRY MET SEJAL. It had brilliant songs. Haphazardly used in the film, Pritam’s album was still one for the history books. Songs like Butterfly, Radha and Hawaiyen along with Safar made this the best album.

Nitesh Tiwari/Shreyas Jain – Bareilly Ki Barfi

The winner was HITESH KEWALYA for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Narrowly beating out the other two main contenders, Alankrita Shrivastava for Lipstick Under My Burkha and Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jain for Bareilly Ki Barfi. It’s hard work to make a film about erectile dysfunction not icky. Yet he managed it.

BEST MALE DEBUT- MATIN REY TANGU – Tubelight

This boy won us over in a below average film with his innocence that immediately drew Bollywood viewers to him.

BEST FEMALE DEBUT-

PLABITA BORTHAKUR – Lipstick Under My Burkha

AAHANA KUMRA – Lipstick Under My Burkha

The two ladies are the winners simply because of how easily they portrayed the frayed characters that director Alankrita Shrivastava had in mind.
